A person was reportedly left with facial injuries after a brawl broke out on the M6.
Police were called to motorway junction of Thelwall Viaduct in Warrington , shortly before 4pm on Monday, to reports that a fight had broken out on the carriageway.
Shortly before the incident, Highways England had been attending a two vehicle crash that was causing long tailbacks for Bank Holiday traffic.
A spokesperson for North West Motorway Police said that as queues were building, an altercation broke out between three cars.
Speaking to the ECHO , the spokesperson said: "As the cars involved got close to the crash, a number of people got out of three cars close to the site of the crash and an altercation occurred.
"There were no injuries as a result of the crash but a person involved in the altercation suffered slight facial injuries.

"We are investigating an allegation of assault into the incident."
Police took to Twitter at the time of the incident to make people aware of delays caused by both the crash and the fight.
The tweet said: "Two lanes closed on the M6 NB Thelwall viaduct due to an RTC.
"Police in attendance assisting Highways but impeded getting to scene due to motorists ignoring the red X's.
"Our vehicles have CCTV fitted registration numbers have been captured."
A short time later however, officers online announced that a fight had broken out shortly after the collision.
They tweeted: "Lane closures set on Thelwall viaduct after a fight broke out in lanes 3 & 4 following an RTC.
"Picture 1 is the scene and the following pictures are 800 yards further back of vehicles using closed lanes who are a few of many that can expect to hear from officers in coming weeks."
