Person struck by train near Bellshill as emergency services attend scene

A person has been struck by a train between Bellshill and Shotts this afternoon.

ScotRail confirmed the incident happened at around 4.20pm this afternoon, with emergency services on the scene.

Train services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts have been cancelled in light of the incident.

Services are now operating between Edinburgh and West Calder only in both directions.

The closure is expected to remain in place until at least 7pm tonight.

A statement from ScotRail reads: "Sadly, due to a person having been struck by a train between Bellshill & Shotts, our Glasgow Central - Edinburgh via Shotts route is closed. More info soon.

"We're working closely with the emergency services and @NetworkRailScot. Train services will operate between Edinburgh & West Calder only in both directions."
