Person dies after being struck by train near Aberdeen in second tragic incident on Scotland's railways

A person has tragically died after being hit by a train near Aberdeen.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Newtonhill shortly after 7am on Thursday.

The person was pronounced dead a short time later after paramedics were sadly unable to save them.

Cops are now trying to identify the tragic rail victim in a bid to inform their family.

The lines between Aberdeen and Stonehaven were temporarily closed while officers dealt with the tragic incident.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line in Newtonhill at shortly after 7am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however a person has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

Emergency services were also dealing with a separate tragedy in West Lothian where a second person has also been hit by a train.

Officers were called to the scene between Bathgate and Blackridge at around 6am on Thursday.

Rail services were re-routed with others terminating early.

The person's condition is currently unknown.
