Person struck by train between Coatbridge Central and Holytown stations

A person has sadly been hit by a train between Coatbridge Cental and Holytown stations in Lanarkshire.

Scotrail confirmed the incident yesterday evening, which is understood to have taken place shortly before 6pm.

It is not clear yet the condition of the person involved and Glasgow Live have contacted British Transport Police for comment.

Train services were disrupted following the incident, but have now returned to normal.

Scotrail advised: "Sadly, a person has been struck by a train between Holytown and Coatbridge Central.

"We're expecting disruption to services between Milngavie, Motherwell and Cumbernauld in both directions due to this incident."

UPDATE: British Transport Police have confirmed the person sadly died following the incident.
