Person struck by train between Airdrie and Shettleston this morning

A person has been struck by a train between Airdrie and Shettleston this morning.

The incident happened at around 6.45am, with ScotRail confirming they are now working with emergency services.

Rail services from Airdrie to Balloch and Edinburgh to Helensburgh have been cancelled following the incident with the disruption expected to last until 10.30am.

A statement from ScotRail reads: "Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Airdrie and Shettleston.

"We are working closely with emergency services during this time and will keep you updated.

"The following service alterations will apply until further notice:

"Services from Airdrie to Balloch will be delayed/revised/cancelled. Services from Edinburgh to Helensburgh will be delayed/revised/cancelled."

The rail operator has advised passengers to use the National Rail Enquiries real-time journey planner to check if you can continue your journey by rail.

Rail tickets are not currently being accepted on local bus routes with rail replacement transport also not arranged, with ScotRail stating they will "monitor this situation as the incident develops".
