A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon near a high school in south suburban Dolton.

The boy was shot at 2:21 p.m. in the 200 block of East 144th Street, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and pronounced dead about 2 hours later.

The fatal shooting happened near the Academy for Learning High School at 306 E. 144th St., police said. The boy did not attend the school.

An autopsy conducted Thursday found the boy died from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said. He has not been identified.

As of Thursday night, no one was in custody, police said.
