A person was shot and killed Friday afternoon on the Eisenhower Expressway just east of the Jane Byrne Interchange.

The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. on the inbound I-290 near Clinton Street, according to Illinois State Police. The male who was shot was dead by the time he got to the hospital, Chicago fire officials said.

Details surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not identified the victim.

Traffic was diverted off the expressway for over four hours as police investigated the shooting. All eastbound lanes were reopened about 5:45 p.m., state police said.
