Person rescued from steep sea cliffs in daring Howth rescue

A person who was trapped on sea cliffs in north Dublin was saved in a daring rescue on Thursday.

Quick-thinking walkers on the cliff path alerted the Irish Coast Guard to the scene.

The crew quickly found the person thanks to the location number of the last sign on the cliff path given by the walkers. The coast guard crew arrived alongside the Howth RNLI, National Ambulance, and CHC Helicopter.

The team set up ropes and removed vegetation along the steep cliffs to clear the path, and the person was finally rescued by the hardworking crew.

A spokesperson for the Irish Coast Guard said: "Yesterday, we rescued a person trapped on sea cliffs in Howth alongside @AmbulanceNAS, @HowthRNLI, @CHCHelicopter. Irish Coast Guard set up ropes and removed vegetation to access the person before accompanying them back to the safety of the cliff top.

"We had a good outcome today thanks to the quick action of some walkers on the cliff path who called 112 and asked for COAST GUARD.

"They were able to give us the location number of the last sign they saw on the cliff path, and then waited in location for us to arrive."
