Person rescued from Cabinteely park pond during early morning search

A person's life was saved in the early hours of this morning during a search for them in a Dublin park.

The Dun Laoghaire branch of the Irish Coast Guard was called to Cabinteely park this morning at around 2.50am.

Upon arrival, they were told that the person who they were searching for was in the pond.

A member of the Coast Guard team along with two members of gardai rescued them from the water, with the person then taken to hospital for care.

The coast guard reminded the public that if they need to talk, the Samaritans helpline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 116 123.

They said: "Irish Coast Guard - Dun Laoghaire we’re paged at 02.51am to assist An Garda Síochána with a search for a person in Cabinteely park.

"On arrival to the park an update was received to advise the person was in the pond. A team member on scene immediately relocated to the pond and deployed a thrown bag to the person, rescuing them from the water with the assistance of two local Gardai.

"First aid care was provided to the person until NAS Paramedics arrived and transported them to hospital for further care. Team stood down at 03.52am.

"If you need to talk to someone, the Samaritans’ helpline is available round the clock on 116 123. You can speak to trained volunteers, who are ordinary people providing a safe place for people to talk."
