A large scale rescue was carried out in the middle of the night after a person got stuck halfway down a cliff in Seaham.
Coastguard teams from Sunderland and Hartlepool were called to assist Durham Constabulary officers just after 12.30am on Sunday morning after someone had become trapped on the side of a cliff.
When the Coastguard rescue teams arrived, they carried out a search which also involved the police helicopter from the air and both RNLI lifeboats from Sunderland in the sea.
During the search, the casualty was found below a narrow cliff path south of Nose's Point.
They agreed to be rescued and a rope rescue technician was lowered down to retrieve them. They were then handed over to the care of the police.
A spokesperson for Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team said there had been "excellent work" during the rescue which had taken place in "poor weather conditions".
