Person pulled from water as emergency services rush to scene at beauty spot

The emergency services rescued a person from open water at a beauty spot.

Police and fire crews were called out to Wigg Island in Runcorn earlier today following reports that someone was in the water.

The ECHO understands that the rescue was successful and that the person is now safe. It is not yet clear if the person was recovered from the River Mersey or the nearby Manchester Ship Canal.

Police and fire crews were at the scene earlier today.

Wigg Island is made up of around 23 hectares of reclaimed land and is hugely popular with walkers.
