Sun-Times file photo

A man jumped out of a vehicle Monday before it fell into Lake Michigan on the South Side.

The man, 37, was northbound about 9 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Promontory Drive when he fell asleep at the wheel, Chicago police said. He woke up as his vehicle was heading towards the lake and was able to jump out before it entered the water.

He was taken in good condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center with minor injuries, police and the Chicago Fire Department said.

The vehicle was pulled from the water and no citations were issued, police said.
