Person killed by train on line between Leeds and Harrogate

A person has been killed by a train on the Leeds to Harrogate line.

Emergency services were called to the tracks close to Harrogate shortly before 10.40am.

All trains were stopped from running as soon as the fatality was reported.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called at 10.39am on 24/02 to an area of railway in Harrogate following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

“They remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.”

London North Eastern Railway tweeted shortly after 11am: "Due to a person being hit by a train at Harrogate all lines are blocked.

Follow latest updates:

"Train services running through this station will be terminated at and started back from Leeds. Harrogate will not be served."

Services on the Leeds to Harrogate line are startting to get back to normal but some delays and cancellations may still happen.
