British Transport Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service attended the incident just after 6am this morning along the Pencoed area of the train line.

But the person who was hit was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police attended the line in the area of Pencoed on Saturday, August 22.

"A person had been struck by a train, and officers from British Transport Police attended the incident which was reported to the police at 6.07am.

"Paramedics also attended and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: "We had a call at 6am this morning from a member of the public and we responded with one emergency vehicle and three HART (hazardous area response team) vehicles, arriving at 6.16am.

"Unfortunately, the patient was deceased at the scene."

No further details have been disclosed about the person hit at this time.

The incident, which affected the 5:22am Great Western Railway Service between Swansea and London Paddington, led Transport for Wales to request replacement road transport to run between Cardiff Central and Bridgend, and Bridgend and Maesteg.
