Person killed after being hit by train between Barry and Bridgend

A person has died after being hit by a train between Barry and Bridgend.

The incident happened at around 7.20pm this evening.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a call from British Transport Police at 7.27pm. We sent a response but the person died at the scene."

According to Transport for Wales the incident happened on the Vale of Glamorgan route, leading to cancelled and delayed services until around 10pm.

On their website they added: "Train services running through these stations will be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or diverted via Llanharan. Rhoose Cardiff Int Airport and Llantwit Major will not be served.

"Replacement road transport services are conveying passengers between Barry and Bridgend via Rhoose Cardiff Airport in both directions until further notice."
