Person injured in Glasgow tenement fire as emergency crews rush to scene

One person was injured last night after a fire in a Glasgow tenement.

Three fire engines and one height appliance were sent to the scene in Byres Road in the west end of Glasgow when the alarm was raised around 7.30pm on Saturday.

An ambulance was also called to the incident, at the junction with Havelock Street.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, in the common close, and left the scene just after 9pm.

A fire service spokesperson said: “The call was received at 7.30pm and we mobilised four resources to a report of the smell of burning and smoke was found in the close.

“There was one casualty and we left the scene at 9.02pm.”

The spokesperson was unable to provide further details on the type and extent of injury.

Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted.
