Sending in two boats, the crews searched the dark waters from Central to South Pier where they were able to find the person.

A spokesperson for RNLI Blackpool said: "Our RNLI volunteers responded to their pagers for the first time in 2022 when they were called out at 6.45pm this evening.

"The Coastguard received reports of a person possibly in the sea near Central Pier.

"Both D class lifeboats launched and searched from Central to South Pier.

"Fortunately the person was found & helped to safety by Coastguard volunteers."
