Person in hospital after being hit by train at Leeds station

A person has been taken to hospital after being hit by a train at Leeds station today.

It happened at around 10.44am, prompting a huge emergency response which included three fire engines, an incident response unit and an air ambulance.

British Transport Police officers and paramedics also attended the scene and the person was taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Air Ambulance said: "We responded to an incident where a patient was struck by a train and our crew provided on scene support. The patient was taken to hospital by road ambulance."

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

An Evans Cycles employee, who did not want to be named, spoke to LeedsLive about what he saw unfolding outside the bike shop opposite Leeds station.

He said: “There were about four ambulances including two emergency response vehicles. There were also two smaller fire service vehicles and two fire trucks.

“There was one police vehicle and then the air ambulance landed on the roof of Trinity Leeds Car Park. We had no idea what was going on until the big convoy pulled up to right outside our front door."

He added: “We see police here quite often but nothing like this.”

Train services up until 12.45pm were subject to delays and cancellations.
