Dec. 03--One person is in custody after a fatal shooting in suburban Riverdale led to a police chase that ended on the South Side of Chicago, authorities said.
About 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Riverdale police were called to the 13800 block of South Stewart Avenue for a person with a gun, according to Riverdale Police Chief David DeMik.
DeMik said witnesses told police a person was putting children in a vehicle and fleeing the scene. Riverdale officers, assisted by other surrounding police departments, pursued the vehicle for about 4 miles to the 11600 block of South Laflin Street in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood, Demik said.
Police arrested the driver and found two young children in the car who were unharmed, DeMik said.
DeMik would not say if the driver was the shooter. Officers found a woman and a man shot inside a home in the 13800 block of South Stewart Avenue, according to Riverdale police.
The man, 35, was shot repeatedly and was taken to Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island where he was pronounced dead at 5:17 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Police identified him as Kevin Denson.
Police did not immediatley provide the age of the woman shot but said she was transported to Ingalls Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to her arm. Her injuries were not life-threatening, police said in a statement.
"Information at this point appears that this was an isolated incident and not a random act of violence," DeMik told reporters.
Authorities described the shooting as domestic-related. Riverdale police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating.
