Person 'hit by train' on Scots rail line as emergency crews race to scene

Emergency services have raced to a Scots rail line after a person was reportedly hit by a train.

Services were disrupted between Airdrie and Shettleston in Glasgow' s East End after reports of the train striking the person between the two stations came in this morning.

Meanwhile services from Airdrie to Balloch and Edinburgh, Helensburgh will be either delayed, revised or cancelled.

Lines have since reopened between Airdrie and Shettleston

Details are still emerging on the incident and the condition, age or sex of the person involved are unclear at this time.

A tweet from ScotRail at 6.48am reads: "Sadly, we’ve had reports of a person being struck by a train between Airdrie and Shettleston. We’re working closely with the emergency services.

"Services from Airdrie - Balloch and Edinburgh - Helensburgh will be delayed/revised/cancelled."

As of 8.17am the line has since been reopened.

National Rail tweeted: "Lines have reopened between Airdrie and Shettleston following the earlier incident where a person was hit by a train.

"Trains running between Bathgate and Glasgow Queen Street may still be cancelled, delayed or revised whilst service recovers.

British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.
