Person hit by train in rush hour incident in Lanarkshire

A person has been hit by a train in Lanarkshire this evening.

Rail bosses confirmed the collision shortly before 6pm.

There is no update yet on the condition of the person involved.

Services on the busy route are disrupted with delays expected.

ScotRail tweeted: "Sadly, a person has been struck by a train between Holytown and Coatbridge Central."

Passengers are advised to travel via Coatdyke to and from Glasgow Queen Street low level.

ScotRail added: "We're expecting disruption to services between Milngavie, Motherwell and Cumbernauld in both directions due to this incident."
