Man on train line in Greenock sparks ScotRail disruption

British Transport Police raced to Greenock on Tuesday after a man was spotted on the tracks.

Officers were called to Greenock Central station at 12.48pm amid concerns for the man's welfare.

He was removed from the line and taken to a safe place.

A British Transport Police spokesperson told the Record: "Officers were called to Greenock station at 12.48pm this afternoon following concern for the welfare of a man who had been on the tracks.

"Officers quickly attended and a man has now been taken to a place of safety."

The incident has resulted in major disruption for train services between Glasgow Central and Gourock.

Services are currently subject to cancellation, delay or revision.

Trains running between Glasgow Central and Wemyss Bay are not affected.

A ScotRail representative said: "We’re working closely with emergency services and will update you once we receive more information.

"Train services between Glasgow Central and Gourock are subject to cancellation, delay or revision."
