Person hit by train between Shotts and Livingston South

A person has been struck by a train between Shotts and Livingston South.

ScotRail announced the tragic incident happened just before 2pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

The line has been closed and services between Edinburgh, Haymarket, Slateford, Wester Hailes and Curriehill and Glasgow, Cambuslang, Uddingston, Bellshill, Hollytown, Carfin, Cleland, Hartwood and Shotts have now been replaced by buses.

A ScotRail statement reads: "Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Shotts and Livingston South, because of this the line is currently closed & services will be disrupted.

"We are working closely with emergency services & will update you once we receive more info."

A number of services have been affected following the incident, with disruption due to continue until 7pm.

All services are suspended between Kilwinning & Paisley Gilmour Street, with ScotRail working to secure replacement transport.

Other services affected include services between Glasgow Central and Ayr, Glasgow Central and Ardrossan Harbour, and Glasgow Central and Largs.

A ScotRail statement reads: "Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Kilwinning and Paisley Gilmour St, because of this services will be disrupted.

"We are working closely with emergency services and will update you once we receive more information from our staff on the ground."
