Person hit by train between Glengarnock and Lochwinnoch as Glasgow Central trains disrupted

A person has tragically been hit by a train this morning in Ayrshire, National Rail have confirmed.

The incident, which took place between Glengarnock and Lochwinnoch, was reported shortly after 7.20am this morning.

Several train services were subsequently disrupted, including trains from Ayr to Glasgow Central Station and trains travelling through Paisley Gilmour Street.

Scotrail advised emergency services were at the scene at around 7.20.

They confirmed: "Police are dealing with an incident between Glengarnock - Lochwinnoch. Services between Glasgow Central - Ardrossan Harbour, Glasgow Central - Ayr and Glasgow Central - Largs will be affected."

National Rail subsequently advised, shortly before 9am: "Kilwinning - All lines have now reopened following a person being hit by a train between Glengarnock and Lochwinnoch. Trains between Kilwinning and Paisley Gilmour Street may be cancelled, delayed or revised as services return to normal."
