Man tragically dies after being hit by train near Scots railway station

A man has tragically died after being hit by a train near a Scots railway station.

London North East Railway (LNER) made the announcement on their Twitter account at 10.04pm on Monday September 20.

They said delays could be expected for any services travelling between Edinburgh and Berwick-upon-Tweed.

British Transport Police have since confirmed that a man has lost his life however the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A tweet from LNER read: "We are saddened to announce that a person has been hit by a train between Edinburgh and Berwick-upon-Tweed.

“Due to this all lines are blocked, and trains running through these stations may be delayed by up to 120 minutes."

At 1.22am on Tuesday September 21, LNER confirmed that the line had been reopened.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Berwick-Upon-Tweed at 9.46pm yesterday (Monday 20 September) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
