Trains are expected to be cancelled or delayed until 9.30pm.

The condition of the person has not yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson from National Rail said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Manchester and Liverpool Lime Street via Earlestown.

"As a result, all lines are blocked, trains may be cancelled or delayed.

"Disruption is expected until 21:30."

While the line is closed rail replacement buses operated by Ocean Travel will depart from Manchester Victoria and call at Newton-Le-Willows, Lea Green and Liverpool Lime Street.
