Person hit and killed by train on line between Edinburgh and Glasgow

A person has died after being hit by a train in the line between Edinburgh and Glasgow on Monday.

Someone was struck near Lenzie station, on the route between Falkirk High and Queen Street, shortly after midday.

ScotRail have said services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street are suspended.

There is major disruption around the central belt which is expected to last until 3pm on Monday.

British Transport Police said: "Police were called at 12.19pm to an area of railway near Lenzie station following a report of a casualty.

"Officers are currently in attendance. Sadly, a person has been pronounced dead at the scene."

The rail operator said: "Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Queen St and Lenzie, because of this services will be disrupted.

"We are working closely with emergency services and will update you once we receive more information from our staff on the ground."
