Person found lying on beach with mystery injuries

A person was rushed to hospital after being rescued by emergency services on a Wirral beach.

Wirral Coastguard were called to Egremont beach in Wallasey, just after 5.30pm on Thursday, by North West Ambulance Service, after a person was found injured on the sand.

Paramedics were already at the scene assessing the casualty for suspected hip and arm injuries, when the coastguards arrived.

Merseyside Police also attended to assist with crowd control.

The Ambulances' Hazardous Area Response Team used a six wheel drive, off road vehicle, to rescue the person and transport them onto the promenade

They were then taken to hospital for assessment and treatment.

The extent of their injuries are not yet known.

Pictures taken at Egremont beach on Thursday, show several several police cars parked up behind an ambulance on the promenade.

Police were called to the scene to control crowds that had formed due to the incident.

A spokesperson from Wirral Coastguard confirmed they were in attendance at 17.38pm on Thursday.
