Person found dead on tracks close to Mersey train station

A person has been found dead on train tracks close to Huyton railway station.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of a person on the tracks at around 8.57am on Wednesday, August 17. Paramedics treated the casualty but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious. Northern and Transpennine Express between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton have been stopped while the incident is dealt with.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Huyton railway station at 8.57am today (August 17) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. "

Transpennine Express have said it is unable to run services in both directions between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria due to the emergency services dealing with the incident in the Huyton area. A spokesperson said is has been arranged for tickets to be used on other services instead.

A spokesperson said: "Due to the ongoing disruption, we have arranged ticket acceptance for those with TPE tickets with East Midlands Railway and Northern, as well as on Metrolink services between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly.
