An 85-year-old man was found dead after an apartment fire Monday in west suburban Aurora.

The incident was classified as a two-alarm fire after crews responded to initial reports of smoke at an apartment building shortly after midnight in the 400 block of North Constitution Drive, according to a statement from Aurora police.

Firefighters found the man dead in the fourth-floor apartment where the fire started, according to Aurora Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Rhodes. The blaze was contained to that unit and was put out shortly after crews arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Aurora fire and police departments, Rhodes said.

The investigation into the death is ongoing, according to police. No displacements or other injuries were reported.
