Person fatally struck by Metra train in Elmhurst

A person was killed after being hit by a Metra train Wednesday in west suburban Elmhurst.

The pedestrian was struck about 6 p.m. on the Union Pacific West tracks near Haven Avenue, according to a Metra spokesman.

Elmhurst officials said the person was killed in the collision.

Elmhurst Police and Fire are on scene at Haven and Park responding to a train vs pedestrian fatality. All trains on the Union Pacific rail line are temporarily suspended in both directions. Traffic is being temporarily re-routed, please avoid the area at this time. The incide....

The tracks were reopened for service about 9:25 p.m., according to Metra.
