Person 'falls from cliff' near Co Antrim lighthouse as emergency services scramble to scene

Emergency services are the scene of an ongoing incident at a Co Antrim lighthouse.

A person is reported to have fallen from a cliff near Blackhead Lighthouse in Whitehead.

Northern Ireland Air Ambulance, Coastguard, police and the fire service are all at the scene.

A spokesman for Belfast Coastguard said they were asked to assist by Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

He added: "Bangor and Larne lifeboats and Larne Coastguard and Prestwick rescue helicopter are all there.

"There was a report of a person falling from a cliff and into the water."

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 12.08 on Tuesday 02 April 2019, following reports of an ongoing incident at Blackhead Lighthouse, Whitehead.

"NIAS dispatched one Emergency crew to the scene. The Charity Air Ambulance was also dispatched to the incident.

"Incident is still ongoing."

The PSNI has been contacted for comment.
