Person dies on train tracks at Levenshulme station

A person has died on the train tracks at a station in south Manchester.

Emergency services were called to the incident at Levenshulme station at around 8.35pm last night (Thursday).

They found a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics were sent to the scene but sadly the person was pronounced dead.

No further details on the person's sex or age have been released yet.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner, a spokesperson for British Transport Police said.

The train lines between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport were blocked from around 8.30pm last night.

In a tweet, TfGM said: "Rail services are currently unable to operate between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport.

"This is due to the emergency services dealing with an ongoing incident.

"Plan ahead & allow extra time."

The line was reopened at around 12.30am this morning.

In a statement, a spokesperson from the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Levenshulme station at 8.35pm last night (7 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
