Person dies on tracks at south Manchester railway station

A person has died on the tracks at a south Manchester railway station.

Emergency crews were called to Levenshulme station at 7.48am this morning (February 3) following reports of a “casualty on the tracks”.

Paramedics attended but the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Rail services have been suspended between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport.

The disruption is expected to last until around 10.45am.

Services were suspended on East Midlands Railway, Transpennine Express, Northern, Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and Transport for Wales between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport.

The line reopened at around 10.30am.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Levenshulme station at 7.48am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed that paramedics attended Levenshulme Station following a call at 7.52am this morning (February 3).
