A 16-year-old girl from McHenry died in a two-vehicle crash Friday night in northwest suburban Wauconda, police said.

A Hyundai Elantra driven south by an 18-year-old Cary man crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic about 10:15 p.m. on Route 12 near Case Road and collided head-on with the girl’s Ford, Wauconda police said in a statement.

She was rushed to Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington, where she died, police and the Wauconda Fire District said.

Two 14-year-old girls and a 15-year-old girl who were passengers in the Ford were also taken to hospitals for treatment and released, police said.

The driver of the Hyundai was also released after treatment and police said charges were pending against him.
