Person dies following reports of casualty on line near Barrhead train station

A person has died following reports of a casualty on the tracks between Barrhead and Dunlop train stations.

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the line near Barrhead around 10:45am this morning (December 10) after the alarm was raised.

Paramedics also attended to assist. Sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

BTP officers are currently working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death.

The investigation has prompted the closure of the line, with ScotRail operating a shuttle bus between Kilmarnock and Barrhead. Ticket acceptance is also in place on the 337 McGills bus between Dunlop, Stewarton, Kilmaurs and Kilmarnock.

A BTP spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Barrhead at 10.43am this morning (December 10) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death."
