A person has died after a car crashed outside a social club in North Shields.
A car is said to have been in a collision on Silkeys Lane outside Chirton Social Club at around 9.30pm on Friday night.
It is unknown how many people were inside the vehicle but police confirmed that one person died.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "We were called to a road traffic collision at 9.30pm.
"One vehicle was involved and it appears to have collided near Chirton Social Club.
"There was possibly up to three people in the vehicle.
"Unfortunately one person died.
"An investigation is ongoing."
A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.35pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle outside of Chirton Social Club.
“We sent three resources.
“There were three patients in total at the scene.
“One ambulance took a patient to the RVI Major Trauma Centre and a second ambulance took a patient or patients to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington.”
