Person dies after being struck by train in horror incident near Glasgow

A person has died after being struck by a train near Glasgow.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the incident at around 8.50am on Sunday.

A BTP spokesman confirmed the person had passed away and efforts were ongoing to identify them and alert any family members.

The victim was struck on the line between East Kilbride and Thornliebank stations.

The spokesman said: “Shortly before 8.50am, officers from British Transport Police were called the lines close to Giffnock railway station after reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Officers attended alongside paramedics. However, the person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family.”

ScotRail services between Glasgow Central station and East Kilbride were cancelled or revised following the incident.
