Person dies after being struck by train in Herne Hill

A person died after being struck by a train in south London.

The person was struck shortly before 5pm Sunday at Herne Hill train station.

The incident caused the station to close while power to the track was switched off for emergency services to respond.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Herne Hill station at 4.48pm on 19 Feb following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

In a message to customers, Southeastern railway said: “We’ve sadly been advised that a person has been hit by a train between Bromley South and Brixton.

“Power to the track has been switched off to allow emergency services and Network Rail response staff to deal with the incident.”

The incident caused disruption to services between Bromley South and London Victoria which resumed normal services by around 8pm.
