BTP has now confirmed the person was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene of the incident  at around 12.44pm this afternoon.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers were called to the line in Falkirk at 12.44pm following report of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”

In a short statement, Scotrail said: "Sadly, a person has been hit by a train between Croy and Polmont. The emergency services are on their way, I'll keep you updated."

As a result of the tragic incident services that normally travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh that call at Falkirk High will now run via Falkirk Grahamston instead.
