Person dies after being struck by a train in Urmston

A person has died after being struck by a train in Urmston.

Emergency services were called to the incident which took place near to Urmston train station, in Trafford, just before 10am.

A person was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details about the identity of the victim have been revealed by British Transport Police.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious by police and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

A spokeswoman for BTP said: "British Transport Police were called at 9.52am today July 10, 2020, to an area of railway near Urmston station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Train services remain suspended between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road while an investigation takes place.

East Midlands Railways and Northern services have been affected.

Passengers are being told services may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

East Midland customers can use their tickets on Northern, London Northwestern Railway, TransPennine Express or Metrolink routes.

Rail replacement buses are running on Northern routes between the two stations, operated by Atlantic Travel.
