Person dies after being hit by train near Glasgow in early morning tragedy

A person has died after being hit by a train near Glasgow.

The main Glasgow to Edinburgh route was locked down on Tuesday morning as emergency services dealt with the tragic incident.

The alarm was raised around 7.59am after reports of a casualty on the tracks between Lenzie and Bishopbriggs.

The person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations are now underway to identify the body and establish the full circumstances of the death.

Disruption on the line is expected to last until around 12pm.

Customers have been advised to take alternative routes where possible.

COP26 delegates can use their travel pass on any bus service.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Bishopbriggs at 7.59am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death."
