Person dies after being hit by train near Bathgate station

A person has died after being hit by a train between Bathgate and Blackridge this morning (Thursday).

Scotrail confirmed the person had sadly died after being struck at around 6am.

The line was closed but reopened a few hours after, however trains were not stopping at Armadale for some time as a result.

Scotrail said: “Sadly, a person has been struck by a train between Bathgate and Blackridge.

“Services between Helensburgh and Edinburgh will now terminate at Airdrie with travellers being recommended to seek an alternative route.”

NationalRail said the line opened again at 10am but warned passengers to expect delays adding: “Lines have now reopened following a person being hit by a train between Bathgate and Airdrie. Trains between Edinburgh and Airdrie may still be cancelled or delayed whilst service recovers.”
