Person dies after being hit by train in Neath

A person has died after being hit by a train on the railway line near Neath.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm on Tuesday, December 29. Emergency services, including paramedics, were called to the Milland Road area of Neath where the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Neath at 12.31pm this afternoon, Tuesday, December 29, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the Milland Road area of Neath this afternoon, Tuesday, December 29, at 12.29pm to reports of a transportation incident on the railway line.

"We sent one rapid response vehicle and one emergency ambulance."

Services between Swansea and London have been disrupted, as well as Transport for Wales services between Manchester Piccadilly and Carmarthen, Fishguard Harbour and Cardiff Central.

National Rail confirmed that disruption is expected to last until around 3.30pm.

Replacement bus services have been requested to run for passengers travelling between Cardiff Central and Swansea.
