Person dies after being hit by train

A person has died after being hit by a train at a Merseyside station.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Halewood Station at 1.21pm today (October 28) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A BTP spokesperson told the ECHO the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

East Midlands Railway stated that trains are unable to run between Liverpool South Parkway and Widnes as a result. Disruption is expected on the Liverpool/Nottingham/Norwich route until 5pm.

Trains will have to divert and will not be able to call at South Parkway, Widnes or Warrington Central.
