Woman, 61, dies after being hit by a train near Woodsmoor station

A woman has died after being struck by a train in Stockport.

Emergency services were called to Woodsmoor Station following reports of a casualty on the tram tracks on Thursday.

Police and the ambulance service arrived at the scene shortly before 11pm.

Paramedics pronounced the woman, 61, dead at the scene.

British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Trains travelling between Stockport, Buxton and Sheffield were temporarily suspended last night while emergency crews attended.

Services are back to running as usual this morning.

A statement from the force said: "Officers were called to Woodsmoor station shortly before 11pm last night following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
