Person dies after being hit by a train near Nottingham

A person has died following an incident on the train line near Nottingham, police have confirmed.

It was reported at around 7pm on Thursday night (October 29) a person had been hit by a train between the station in Nottingham city centre and Derby.

East Midlands Railway confirmed: "Sadly, a person has been hit by a train near Nottingham.

“This is between Nottingham and Derby and is disrupting our trains on the Newark/ Derby/ Matlock, Leicester/ Lincoln/ Grimsby, Norwich/ Nottingham/ Liverpool and London St Pancras/ Nottingham/ Sheffield routes.

“At present the Emergency Services and Network Rail are on their way to the site. We are awaiting further information. “

Lines were reopened around 8.30pm.

A spokeswoman for the British Transport Police said the following day (October 30): "Officers were called to the line in Nottingham at 6.24pm last night (29 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
