Person dies after being hit by a train at railway station

Emergency services have been called after a person was hit by a train, the operator has confirmed.

East Midlands Railway reported on Friday (February 19) at around noon that some of their Nottingham services were affected.

It has since been confirmed the person who was hit by the train has died.

A British Transport Police spokesperson told Derbyshire Live: "British Transport Police were called to Dronfield railway station at 10.30am this morning (19 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

EMR said in a statement: "Sadly, a person has been hit by a train between Chesterfield and Sheffield. This is disrupting our trains on the London/Derby/Sheffield and Liverpool/Nottingham/Norwich routes.

"Emergency services are on site dealing with the incident."

Tickets are being accepted with other train operators on reasonable routes.

The operator said it expects the line to reopen at 12.30pm.
