Person dies after being hit by a train at Newark Northgate Station

A person has died after being hit by a train at Newark Northgate train station.

Police and paramedics were called to the station on Thursday morning, March 11, following reports of a serious incident on the line.

All services through Newark were cancelled and while the line has been re-opened, disruption is expected until 4pm.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Newark North Gate railway station at 9.18am today (11 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the person and establish the full circumstances behind their death."

Train operator LNER has advised customers not to travel on the route today.

A spokesperson added: "Where possible, you are encouraged to use an alternative mode of transport to complete your journey."
