Person 'cut from BMW' after two car smash at Oldham roundabout

A crash between two cars has prompted a huge emergency response this evening in Chadderton.

One person had to be cut from a white BMW after the smash and has been taken to hospital.

The incident happened at a roundabout in Butler Green shortly before 8pm this evening, December 21.

A police cordon is currently in place at the junction of Coalshaw Green Road.

Police, fire crews and paramedics remain on the scene, as drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

A technical response unit, two fire engines, two paramedic vehicles and a police car are present.

One onlooker said they saw a person cut from a white BMW which was left badly damaged in the smash.

They said: "From what I could see, somebody was still in the vehicle and fire crews had to cut them out.

"They started being stabilised on a trolley in front of the ambulance.

"The BMW is completely written off. I can also see a Renault that is missing a bumper.

"It is a busy junction so naturally it has caused a bit of chaos. I would say it is one of the worst in the area for accidents."

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At approximately 7.45pm on Tuesday, 21st December, two fire engines from Oldham and Chadderton fire stations, alongside the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, attended a road traffic collision on Coalshaw Green in Chadderton, Oldham.

“The collision involved two vehicles.

"Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to extricate a woman from one of the vehicles, before she was transferred to the care of colleagues from NWAS and conveyed to hospital. Firefighters remain at the scene at this time.”

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Police were called shortly before 7.35pm yesterday (21 December) to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Coalshaw Green Road, Chadderton.

"Emergency services attended and a woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made."
